Harnessing Nasal Immunity with IgA to Prevent Respiratory Infections
نویسندگان
چکیده
The nasal cavity is a primary checkpoint for the invasion of respiratory pathogens. Numerous pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2, S. pneumoniae, aureus, etc., can adhere/colonize lining to trigger an infection. Secretory IgA (sIgA) serves as first line immune defense against foreign sIgA facilitates clearance pathogenic microbes by intercepting their access epithelial receptors and mucus entrapment through exclusion. Elevated levels neutralizing at mucosal surfaces are associated with high level protection following intranasal immunizations. This review summarizes recent advances in vaccination technology challenges maintaining nominal surface. Overall, emphasizes significance IgA-mediated immunity, which holds tremendous potential mount

Harnessing the Microbiome to Prevent Fungal Infections: Lessons from Amphibians
All multicellular organisms are host to microbial symbionts that constitute the microbiome and can have significant impacts on the host, including altering development, behavior, and health [1]. In turn, aspects of the host and their environment can influence the microbiome [2]. Here, we briefly summarize current knowledge of the amphibian skin microbiome and its role in heath and disease. Give...
متن کاملAdjuvants of Immunity: Harnessing Innate Immunity to Promote Adaptive Immunity
Since Jules Freund reported that crude mycobacterial extracts greatly promoted immune responses to antigens (1), the use of adjuvants has become a widespread, but poorly understood practice to promote T and B cell responses (2). Recent studies have begun to identify the chemical nature of several adjuvants and the cellular and molecular mechanisms of their long-elusive immunologi-cal effects. F...
متن کاملHLA-KIR Interactions and Immunity to Viral Infections
Host genetic factors play a central role in determining the clinical phenotype of human diseases. Association between two polymorphic loci in human genome, human leukocyte antigen (HLA) and killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIRs), and genetically complex infectious disease, particularly those of viral etiology, have been historically elusive. Hence, defining the influence of genetic di...

Background and Objective: This study was performed to investigate long-term complications of Respiratory Syncytial Viral infections in patients admitted to Ali Asghar Hospital with acute respiratory infections who presented to follow-up outpatient clinics 6 months to 3 years after discharge, between years 2009 and 2011. Methods: In this retrospective observational study that was performed in a...
متن کاملSaline nasal irrigation for acute upper respiratory tract infections.
BACKGROUND Acute upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), including the common cold and rhinosinusitis, are common afflictions that cause discomfort and debilitation, and contribute significantly to workplace absenteeism. Treatment is generally by antipyretic and mucolytic drugs, and often antibiotics, even though most infections are viral. Nasal irrigation with saline is often employed as a...
